Jefferson County Sheriff's Office - The Sheriff’s Office Continues an Investigation Into the Death of an Inmate Last Night at the Jail

284

The Sheriff’s Office continues an investigation into the death of an inmate last night at the jail. At around 8:00 P.M., corrections officers discovered Korey L. LeGrand (32) of Farmington deceased with evidence suggesting he hung himself. LeGrand was in his own cell and had been in our custody since June 22, 2022, for various felony and misdemeanor offenses in Jefferson and St. Louis County.

While the investigation is on-going, we do know that the jail psych doctor had visited with LeGrand after a court appearance the day prior. According to the doctor, there were no pre-indicators that would have triggered “suicide watch.” The Sheriff’s Office will also conduct an internal review to determine procedure violations and/or to learn methods for improvement.

One of our mental health professionals visited with inmates last night during the investigation, although no inmate shared they had communication with LeGrand.

All the inmates in the area were locked in their own cells and there were no other signs of violence.
